Space Case is all about mystery, adventure, and awesomness on the moon!
Space Case by Stuart Gibbs is about Dashiell (Dash) Gibson, and his mystery adventure on Moon Base Alpha or (MBA). The futuristic life on the moon isn’t as it is cracked up to be. Dr. Holtz is surprisingly murdered, and it is up to MBA, NASA, and Dash to figure out who did it. There are many suspects, and lots of confusion, but there is only one person who could have done it, and it’s the most unexpected person to murder someone. With new friends, surprising facts, and a moon maniac on the loose, Dash might be able to figure it out once and for all.
This book made me glued to my seat throughout every new discovery. It is jammed packed with mystery and discovery, and a touch of lightheartedness. One thing that really surprised me was who committed the murder. It was someone that really no reader would be able to suspect, and that’s what makes it so good. Throughout the book, I began to take suspicions, and it was very easy to get caught up in them.
“A bear burst through the trees ahead of us and scampered across the trail…” This passage really caught my eye because it was a great way to describe the death of Dr.Holtz. We don’t really know much about him in the book, but it came as a real surprise to the crew of MBA.
There are a lot of real world connections in this book. For one, NASA is moving toward life on Mars, and we technically already have astronauts living on or by the moon. There is lots of technology that we may have, but so far, I am not aware of it. There is a motherboard, robots, and much more, which I am sure that we have somewhat reached that type of technology. We obviously have spaceships. Another connection is that there is lots of rivalry between the Sjoberg kids and Dash, and I know I have some small fights with my siblings.
I have loved reading this book, but one thing I would change would be the ending (WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS);
“How did you know I was an alien?” Zan asked curiously.
“I’ve never seen eyes like that before, what is your planet called?” I asked, trying to change the subject.
“It’s not too far away, you humans call it SG 61109b, but Dr. Holtz liked to call it Bosco.” Zan replied. There were so many questions I had for her in my head, but I just couldn’t bring myself to ask them, except for one.
“I noticed that I’m the only one who can see you, right?”
“How did you figure that out?” She asked, eyes sparkling.
“I’ve never seen you speak to anyone, except for me…” I said.
“You ARE a smart kid.” Zan said, smiling.
“I’ll see you later, I guess?” I said.
“Sure. See yah, Dash.” Zan said, and walked off toward the greenhouse.
“Wait!” I exclaimed, running up to her.
“Yeah?” Zan said, looking surprised.
“How come… how come no one can see you?” I asked quickly, coming up with a filler. The only reason I wanted to see her was to talk to her more meaningfully again before her deportation.
“I make myself invisible.” She said simply, and just to prove so, Kira walked straight through Zan, and up to me. I laughed, and Zan walked away laughing too. I guess having an alien as a friend wouldn’t be so bad after all.
